Darryl knew his material and allowed lots of time for questions during the classroom session, on breaks, and at lunch – if you desired. Great examples for those of us who needed clarification on the terms. Worked really well with Melody. She was co-presenting and was planning to leave the government soon. She has a wealth of knowledge that is of a great value to the public service. Every person should be able to connect and speak with someone like her in their career in the public service. It was great having someone facilitating the course that had direct/personal experience with the subject matter.

Her background in Compensation was great. She was able to give us information on deadlines and dates to watch for. She was a very knowledgeable “subject matter expert” when it came to how the system works within the federal government. Melody gave real life examples and information that was applicable to everyone’s situation. Too bad she is retiring from the public service.

This course if very valuable as I plan on retiring in the next couple of years. It would also be valuable to younger people who are just getting into their careers in the public service so that they can get an appreciation of their pension and what they need to do for retirement planning.

Everyone knows about the Planning for Retirement Course – everyone should have presenters as good as Darryl and Melody. They present the course content in a way that makes it understandable, manageable, and not over-whelming. Their experience was evident and this was exemplified in the real-life examples they used. This is the BEST course I have taken throughout my career at the Federal Government. Darryl’s knowledge level was impressive to say the least! If you have not booked him to facilitate all the Planning to Retirement courses in the region, I would strongly recommend that you do. He took the time to answer all relevant questions and kept the course on track. I have recommended it to all my coworkers.

The pre-retirement course is more personal development and not directly applicable to the work I do. However, it provides great rationale for staying the federal public service as we have an amazing pension plan if you put the years of service in. There no pre-reading but I think that the course would benefit if there was computers available so that we could go to the various sites together, especially the pension calculator and information on CPP. A lot of information to absorb in three days but enough to make you want to start doing some personal researching for yourself.

Darryl is an excellent presenter who really knows what he is talking about. He was receptive to questions at all times. One of my classmates was an HR Compensation Advisor who counselled public service members on retirement – Darryl welcomed all comments by her to supplement what he was teaching.
